I will admit that I felt a little silly lying to people about through the invitations, especially since I really did have an awesome reason to celebrate. Some people feigned disgust at the fact that I had deceived them, but I’m certain it was all in fun. People quickly starting referring to it as my un-birthday party (I guess website release party was too big a mouthful). I also felt bad when people showed up with gifts, though I rationalized it away by saying that my birthday was only a few days away.
There was also that normal division at any party of the people who come from different parts of the host's life (in this case, my magician and non-magician friends) but everyone was great and friendly to each other. It’s nice in this type of situation when folks who are only just meeting for the first time get together and start up conversations. We even got a performance from one of my friends, which was awesome.
It was great bringing so many of my friends together to celebrate with me. People gathered together and had a great time, and that’s really what being a magician is all about.
